Taking the opportunity of chairing probably his last gram sabha of the village, Bastora Sarpanch, Savio Martins on Sunday informed the villagers that various works of around Rs 4 crore will commence in the village within the next quarter.
Among the various works in the pipeline, widening and improvement of the main district road (MDR) from Bastora junction to the Moira Bridge will be taken up at a cost of Rs 3 crore, he said.
“We will expand the main thoroughfare from the junction to the Moira Bridge, build a traffic island near the junction and construct footpaths on either side of the road. This has been done taking into consideration the future rise in traffic,” Martins said.
The works will be taken up through the PWD (roads).
Besides, repairing of nullahs, improvement of existing footpaths, jogging track, canal works are some other projects that will be taken up within the next three months.
Martins, who has tendered his resignation as the sarpanch with the intention of passing on the baton to the next in line, took the opportunity to inform the gram sabha of the various works that have been tendered and expected to start soon.
Work of repairing various nullahs in the village has been tendered and will be taken up within a month at a cost of Rs 23 lakh, he said.
“A jogging track/footpath from the Bastora church to Holy Cross chapel at Menezes vaddo has also been tendered for Rs 28 lakh while work to improve the existing footpaths with pavers in other areas of the village have also been taken up,” the sarpanch added.
He further stated that work to renovate an old government primary school (shaala) which was lying unused will be taken up through CSR (corporate social responsibility) activity.
“Once repaired the structure will be used to house a gym, library and resource room,” Martins informed.
The sarpanch said work on construction of the second phase of the community hall at Bhandar will also be taken up.
“Almost 90 per cent of the roads in the village have been hot mixed and soon the narrow roads where we cannot take the machine, we’ll use pre-mix to patch them up,” he said.
Martins also informed that the repair of canals flowing from Tillari will be completed within a month which will benefit many farmers in the village.
He also urged the farmers to take advantage of the Central government scheme to get into organic farming and to submit their names in the panchayat.
